End-Matched
Why End Match Matters
Every prefinished board has a tongue and groove machined into both ends, so each piece locks on all four sides. Boards join between studs, so you don’t need long 12′ or 16′ lengths.
- Less waste. Most wood projects budget 10% or more for waste; end-matched Johnson Pine typically needs only 3–5%. We still recommend adding at least 5%.
- Faster install. Little to no trimming and no on-site grooving.
- Cleaner job site. Fewer off-cuts and far less sawdust.
Wirebrushed
Wirebrushed Texture
Wirebrushing raises the grain so you can see and feel it through the finish. It’s available as an option on every prefinished color and pattern, for an additional cost. Choose planed or wirebrushed. Black River comes wirebrushed only. Wirebrushed is available as a special order, and Black River is the one wirebrushed finish we stock.
Install & Care
Level. Lock. Tack. Trim.
- AcclimateAt least a week in the room at 35–55% humidity and 60–80°F, held there after install. Never on heated floors.
- NailThrough the tongue at 30° with 1½”–2″ finish nails, 16 or 18 ga, so the next board hides each nail. Leave a ¼” perimeter gap. Vertical installs go on furring strips every 16″.
- Touch upKits include fill sticks, paint markers and matching topcoat. Matching stain and finish also come in quarts.
- CareDry dust. Skip abrasive cleaners; they damage the finish.
Why the yard stocks it
Milled, graded & finished at the mill
Johnson Pine comes from a family-owned mill, running since 1977, with its own sawmill, dry kilns, planer mills and finishing line.
Kiln dried pine
Eastern white pine, sawn, kiln dried and planed in Johnson’s own mill.
Graded for the finish
Prefinished patterns are Premium grade. Arctic White goes over D-Select pine, so only faint grain and pin knots show. Arctic White is not a solid white paint, knots and grain may still be visible.
End-matched EZ-Lock
Both ends of every board are machined on an automatic end-matcher for a consistent fit.
2-Coat Finish
Stained or natural, every board gets two coats on the face and edges, and one on the back.
Pine ambers slightly with sunlight and age, especially around the knots. That’s natural, not a defect.
