Pick a condenser

Choose by number of rooms: 18K (up to 3), 27K (up to 4), 36K (up to 5), or 48K or 55K (up to 6).

One air handler per room

Wall-mount (6K–36K) or OuttaSight ceiling cassette (6K–18K). 230V only; 115V wall units are single-zone only. Your size mix must match MRCOOL’s matchup chart.

One line set per room

6K, 9K or 12K = 1/4 x 3/8, 18K = 1/4 x 1/2, 24K or 36K = 3/8 x 5/8. On a 5- or 6-zone condenser, a 24K or larger air handler connects through the adapter kit that comes with the condenser.

How long can my line sets be?

  • Each air handler: up to 73 ft of line set from the condenser to any one air handler.
  • All rooms combined: the total depends on your condenser and how many air handlers you connect. 18K 3-zone: up to 172 ft total. 27K, 36K, 48K and 55K: up to 221 ft total. (MRCOOL’s manual lists 123 ft with 2 air handlers connected, 172 ft with 3, and 221 ft with 4–6.)
  • Runs over 25 ft: join pre-charged line sets with a coupler, and extend the communication wire too. Use a line set that includes DIYPro cable (25, 35 or 50 ft), or a coupler kit with 75 ft of cable.
